Text Diff FAQ

Paste the original version on the left and the new version on the right. Differences are highlighted as you type: green for added text and red with a line through it for removed text.

Lines mode marks whole lines that changed — best for code and config files. Words mode highlights the exact words that changed — best for prose and documents. Characters mode shows single-character changes such as typos.

In Lines mode it ignores indentation and spaces at the end of lines, so a re-indented file doesn't show every line as changed. Words mode already ignores changes in spacing between words.

Yes — use Lines mode for source code. For JSON specifically, the JSON Compare tool understands JSON structure and ignores key order.

There's no fixed limit, but very large texts (hundreds of thousands of lines) compared in Characters mode can be slow because every character is compared. Use Lines mode for big files.

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so you can safely compare contracts, code or private documents.
